It's Time for a law that protects everyone and reflects our Belizean society at its best.

A new law has been proposed that will prohibit discrimination based on, for example, how able-bodied someone is, what race or religion they are, or their sexual orientation. Belizeans agree that this Bill will help protect all of us and reflects our society at its best, as evidenced by a July 2022 poll that found an overwhelming 90% of those surveyed support such a law.

WHAT IS THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION ABOUT?

  • Removing systemic barriers to equality
  • Promoting equal opportunities for everyone in society
  • Protecting persons against discrimination
  • Protecting religious belief in a pluralistic society
  • Fostering an environment that ensures detection and prevention of HIV/AIDS in Belize

WHAT IS THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION *NOT* ABOUT?

  • Changing marriage laws
  • Changing abortion laws
  • Trumping religious belief
  • Criminalizing discrimination
  • Creating hate speech offences for religious expression and proselytizing
